What do I need to get started?
A Windows 10 or 11 PC, a microphone, an internet connection, a free Groq API key, and a Susurra license key. Trial keys are free. On first launch you paste your license key, add your Groq key, pick a hotkey, and check your microphone.
Which apps does it work in?
Any app with a place to type: email, chat, documents, browsers, and code editors. Put your cursor in a text field, hold the key, and talk. Susurra pastes or types the result where your cursor is.
Where do my audio and text go?
Your recording is sent to Groq for transcription, and the text is sent to Groq for cleanup, Ask, and Rewrite. Your history stays on your PC. The Susurra license service also receives your transcripts and usage details, which authorized administrators can see. The live transcript setting only changes the preview on your screen. The privacy page has the full list.
Why do I need my own Groq API key?
Susurra runs speech recognition and cleanup through your Groq account, using Whisper for transcription and a Llama model for editing. Groq offers free API keys at console.groq.com. Your usage limits depend on your Groq plan.
What do the three keys do?
Right Ctrl dictates. Right Alt answers a spoken question or request at your cursor. F9 rewrites the text you have selected using your spoken instruction. You can change all three in Settings, and dictation also works as tap to start, tap to stop.
Does it work offline?
Not for dictation. Speech recognition and cleanup need an internet connection. Your license is checked with a signed token that keeps working offline for a while, so a short outage will not lock you out.
Which languages does it support?
You can choose from 17 languages in Settings or let Susurra detect the language you speak. Dictation keeps the language you spoke. To translate, select the text, hold F9, and say the language you want.
Can I move my license to a new PC?
Each key activates on one PC at a time. If you switch computers, email sales@susurra.xyz and we can release the old machine so the key works on the new one.
Does it keep running when I close the window?
Yes. Closing the window leaves Susurra in the Windows tray so the key keeps working. Quit from the tray icon, or turn on launch at login in Settings.
